Looking for downtown Seattle hotels? Near the waterfront or other attractions?
There are luxury hotels, boutique hotels, and hotels in historic buildings. If you are visiting without a car, you'll appreciate the closeness of these hotels to the waterfront, great restaurants, downtown shopping, and major attractions like Pike Place Market.
For the purposes of this page, downtown Seattle hotels are those that fall within the core downtown area. This area is bounded by E. Yesler Way on the south, Denny Way on the north, I-5 on the east and the waterfront on the west. Hotels within this area are easily within walking distance of all downtown attractions and restaurants. All are within the Ride Free Area of the Seattle Metro Transit bus system with the exception of the Edgewater and the Pan Pacific. These are within two blocks of the area.
If you're looking for Seattle luxury hotels, there are several, some with views of the water. Keep in mind that any room with a view of the water will tend to be a little pricier. The time of year can also make a difference in the rates as Seattle is a popular tourist destination. The tourist season falls between Memorial Day and Labor Day and is considered peak season. If you are here during the off-season, you can sometimes find excellent deals on hotel packages.
For convenience, I will list them in order of location from north to south.

Pan Pacific
2125 Terry Avenue
4 Star, $$$
Located just off Denny Way on Terry Avenue, the Pan Pacific is on the north edge of downtown about eight blocks from Seattle Center, six blocks from Lake Union, and four blocks from Pike and Pine Street shopping. It sits above a Whole Foods Market which is convenient if you are too tired to go back out for a snack or meal. Decorating the lobby are prints of historic photos from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's personal library. Pets welcome.

The Edgewater
2411 Alaskan Way, Pier 67
4 Star, $$$
If you're looking for a Seattle hotel room where you can hear the water lapping against the building, the Edgewater is the place to stay. Literally on the water at Pier 67, it is famous for the Beatles having fished from the window of their room in 1964. The water-side rooms are the best reason to come here as rooms on the other side overlook the city streets or the parking lot. The decor is Pacific Northwest lodge-style, with knotty-pine furniture and gas fireplaces giving it a more quaint feel than luxurious. Pets welcome.

Right next to the Moore Theatre, this is another historic building. Built in 1907, you are transported back in time to the beginning of the 20th Century. Historic photos on the walls portray the hotel and theatre as they were back in the day when there was a swimming pool in the basement and countless Seattleites took swimming lessons there! If you are looking for all the modern amenities, this one's not for you. But if you love the elegance and charm of historic buildings, and want a great location at an amazing price, check out the Moore Hotel. And be sure to take time for a tour of the Moore Theatre.
