August 2010

August means summer and sunshine! The Seattle Events Calendar August 2010 will keep you informed about upcoming events in Seattle in August. Streetfairs, festivals, outdoor concerts, a county fair, fun runs, parks and beaches - take your pick!

The last week of the month-long Seafair celebrations is this month, culminating in the hugely popular hydroplane races on Lake Washington and the Boeing Air Show featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. It's a spectacular event that is anticipated by thousands each year.

There are art festivals, cultural festivals, kite festivals, and so much more. It's the best time of year to be outside and there are so many outdoor activities you'll have a hard time choosing. So plan your summer now with the Seattle Events Calendar for August 2010.

2010 Seafair Fleet Arrival and Tours

For 60 years, Seattleites have welcomed the arrival of the ships and sailors of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Canadian Navy to Seattle's Elliott Bay waterfront for Seafair. Over 5,000 sailors disembark for the opportunity to take part in the Seafair action on Lake Washington.

The Fleet will enter Elliott Bay on Wednesday, August 4 between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Help welcome them at Bell Harbor as they parade through the Bay.


Seafair: Hydroplane Races - Albert Lee Cup

The hydroplane races are the culmination of the month-long Seafair Festival. It is a weekend that thousands of Seattleites look forward to every year. Exciting high-speed races involving the fastest powerboats and hydroplanes in the world. There are also lots of entertainment options taking place on land as well for the whole family. Tickets are available throught the Seafair website.


Seafair: Boeing Air Show Featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels

You can see them in the air from just about anywhere near Lake Washington. And you can hear them for miles around. They are spectacular!


Concerts at the Mural

Mural Amphitheater, Seattle Center

Seating is first-com, first-served, bring your own folding chairs or blankets. Center House Bistro is right next to the Mural and has patio seating overlooking the Mural if you're looking for dinner during the concert. Other food is available inside the Center House. No large bags, large coolers or ice chests, or pets allowed in the movie area. A beer/wine garden will open one hour before the show for people at least 21 years of age.

Lake City Pioneer Days and Grand Parade

Norske Dansere - Norwegian National Dance Champions and Wild Salmon Dinner

Norske Dansere, lead by well known Norwegian dance instructor Karin Brennesvik, features Norwegian dance champions from the rich cultural areas of Telemark and Numedal Norway. She brings a number of dancers from the group Småjondølene which Karin founded and directed. They will be performing the intricate bygdedans or country dances such as Numedal springar and gangar; halling; pols; telespringar and gangar; and tremannsdans or three person dance. Tremannsdans is usually done with two women and one man and, as we all know, sometimes three can be a crowd. The dance, done in the tradition of Telemark, brings out how Norwegians cope with this interesting situation!
The event is sponsored by Leikarringen of Leif Erikson Lodge No. 1, Norsk Folkedans Stemne, and Frontier Bank (now doing business as Union Bank). Proceeds benefit the educational programs of Norsk Folkedans Stemne. Afterwards, there is dancing for everyone.
