The Seattle Events Calendar September 2010 will keep you informed about what's happening in Seattle in September. Summer is winding down, school is starting, but there are still lots of fun things to do. Labor Day Weekend is the big summer finale, with Bumbershoot being the big event. The biggest country fair, the Puyallup Fair, takes place in September as well.

September also means blackberries in the Pacific Northwest. They grow like weeds everywhere, and you can pick them to your heart's content. I always pick enough to make a pie every week and enough extra to fill up my freezer for the winter. Check out the Bremerton Blackberry Festival.

The World Championship of Sand Sculpting is in the U.S. this year for the first time, and it takes place right here in Federal Way just south of Seattle.

Bumbershoot is North America's largest urban arts festival featuring music, film, comedy, dance, theatre, performance and visual arts for three days over Labor Day weekend at Seattle Center. One ticket gets you onto the Festival grounds each day, and there's plenty to eat, see, and do all weekend.

Lopez Island Art Studio Tour

Take the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes to San Juan Islands

Lopez Island is the first ferry stop in the San Juans. This is a self-guided tour that features 25 studios and the work of 36 artists. It stretches from the ferry landing at the north end to the south end of the island, which is about 30 square miles. You'll want to have some mode of transportation. Biking is a great way to do this tour if the weather cooperates, or you can come by car. Most of the islands' amenities are located in Lopez Village about four miles from the ferry terminal. On Saturday, the farmers market will be operating there from 10am to 2pm. Pick up a map of all the studios on the tour at the ferry landing, shops in Lopez Village, at the studios or online.

World Championship of Sand Sculpting

For the very first time, the World Championship of Sand Sculpting will be held in the United States. It is the largest gathering of sand sculptors in the world, and master sculptors from all over the globe will be competing to create works of art out of sand and water.

This is Washington's biggest country fair, featuring carnival rides, concerts, 4-H animals, quilt exhibits, art exhibits, rodeo, food and lots more. Puyallup is pronounced "pew all up" for those of you who were wondering! The concert lineup is usually very good, and the show goes on rain or shine. Been there, done that, in the rain and the shine!
