Washington Huskies basketball coach Lorenzo Romar anticipates an outstanding season for his program this year. After a shaky start last season, his Husky basketball team came on very strong and won the 2010 Pac-10 tournament. The team's success continued as they made it as far as the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.
Now for the first time in many years, preseason polls predict the Huskies to win the Pac-10 conference title. With offensive threats like 5ft 9in point guard Isaiah Thomas returning for the 2010-11 season, the Washington Huskies basketball team has a full stable of potential stars. Other major contributors include athletic senior forward Bryan-Amaning, a U.K. native big man.
Other weapons joining Thomas in the backcourt are senior Venoy Overton, and C.J. Wilcox, possibly one of the best shooters in the country. Senior wing Justin Holiday and sophomore Abdul Gaddy will also be huge contributors.
The Washington Huskies home court is Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion right next to Husky Stadium. It is the primary home for the Husky men's and women's basketball teams, volleyball team and gymnastics squad. The massive brick building, a monument to durability, has been in service since 1927. In 1999 the building underwent a $40-million renovation. Even though seating capacity was increased from 7,900 to approximately 10,000, the arena is much more intimate than before, because the roof support pillars that used to obstruct court views were removed. Catch a game if you can! See UW Huskies Transportation for parking details.
